Buying A Cigar Ashtray
Cigar ashtrays are a necessity for any cigar smoker who likes to enjoy their cigars in the comfort of their own home. This ensures you always have a place to ash your cigar, and several cigar ashtrays are designed just to match the size of your cigar as well as how you hold the cigar while smoking it, and how you hold the cigar in your mouth.
Often one can find the perfect cigar ashtray waiting for you at your local flea market or antique store. These are often old, antiquated ashtrays that were specifically made for cigar smokers. The modern, lead crystal cigar ashtrays can be avoided due to the fact that they get dirty very quickly and it’s hard to manipulate the cigar once it gets smoked down (it’s no fun to have to dig around in ashes to find your cigar that you haven’t finished smoking yet).
Proper cigar ashtrays, or the ones that would be most useful to your should have a resting place for your cigar with large proportions around 2 inches long and about an inch wide. We want to be able to accommodate a variety of cigar shapes so we don’t have to switch ashtrays every time you smoke an exotic cigar shape. The rest needs to be curved so it prevents the cigar from rolling to its side.
The actual tray needs to be large enough for at least ashes from two cigars, so you don’t get distracted by an annoying pile of ash that needs to constantly be toyed with so you don’t spill it all over the place. Also you don’t want to have to empty your cigar ashtray every time you smoke half a cigar. If a friend comes over you want to make sure you have an ashtray with two cigar holders and enough size to keep the ashes contained without any build up.
Sometimes you don’t have any room for an ashtray on your desk or table and will need an ashtray on a stand. You can also find these ashtrays on a stand at your fleamarket or antique stores as well, they were quite popular in the past. Make sure that your cigar ashtray on a stand also has a reasonable tray size and resting spot. Usually the stand has heavy glass or metal, do not get something with a lightweight glass as it could break and shatter easily. Ceramic cigar ashtrays work as well, but you may want to test it out to see if it can handle the fall to a carpeted floor, because whether you like it or not your cigar ashtray is going to fall at least once in your cigar smoking career. Especially if you received it as a gift, whoever gave it to you isn’t going to be happy if it ends up in a million pieces on the floor, if that’s the case you may just want to use it as a decoration.
Do not put the cigar out by stubbing it in the ashtray like cigarettes, just let it die out on its own by pointing it downwards. This will end it quickly enough while also reducing residue and smell. Leaving cigars in the ashtray overnight will cause the smell to spread to other parts of the household, a Bionaire Air purifier, or any other kind of air purifier will help you get that smell out. Used cigar butts left in the ashtray overnight often create a very stale smell that noone likes to experience.
